Job Description

EHS Manager
Greenwood, South Carolina
About the role

We are supporting a growing advanced manufacturing business in Greenwood, South Carolina with the appointment of an experienced EHS Manager to lead environmental, health and safety activities across its manufacturing operation.

This is a site-based leadership role with responsibility for ensuring a safe, compliant and operationally effective working environment. The position will be particularly well suited to candidates who have worked within semiconductor manufacturing, chemical production, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, specialty materials, electronics or other highly regulated process‑manufacturing environments .

The successful candidate will take ownership of site‑level EHS programmes while working closely with operations, engineering, facilities and senior leadership. A key part of the role will be managing risk associated with hazardous chemicals, specialty gases, process equipment and facility infrastructure , while helping the business maintain a practical and proactive safety culture as the site continues to grow.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead all day‑to‑day environmental, health and safety activities across the manufacturing site.
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve site EHS policies, procedures, standards and compliance programmes.
  • Take ownership of safety requirements relating to hazardous chemicals, specialty gases, chemical storage, delivery, handling and distribution systems .
  • Conduct and coordinate risk assessments, job hazard analyses, process hazard reviews and other structured safety assessments .
  • Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analysis and corrective and preventive action programmes.
  • Support process safety management activities and the safe operation of chemical and gas systems.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response procedures, including chemical spill response, evacuation and site preparedness.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local EHS legislation , including OSHA requirements and relevant environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, compliance audits and safety reviews.
  • Develop and deliver employee safety training, toolbox talks and awareness programmes.
  • Partner with engineering and facilities teams on the introduction of new equipment, manufacturing lines, processes and facility modifications .
  • Provide EHS input into equipment installation, commissioning, maintenance and change‑management activities.
  • Manage contractor safety requirements, permit‑to‑work processes and site access standards.
  • Support environmental permitting, waste management and regulatory reporting where required.
  • Track EHS performance, corrective actions, audit findings and leading/lagging safety indicators.
  • Work closely with production teams to ensure safety requirements remain practical and aligned with operational objectives.
  • Promote a positive, accountable and continuously improving safety culture across the site.
Experience and qualifications
  • Strong EHS, safety or process‑safety experience within a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment .
  • Demonstrable hands‑on experience working with hazardous chemicals, specialty gases or controlled process systems .
  • Experience within semiconductor, chemical manufacturing, pharmaceutical, life sciences, medical manufacturing, specialty materials, battery, electronics or another process‑intensive manufacturing environment would be highly relevant.
  • Strong working knowledge of US EHS regulations , including OSHA requirements.
  • Knowledge of South Carolina environmental and workplace safety requirements would be advantageous.
  • Experience working around chemical delivery infrastructure, gas systems, process equipment and manufacturing utilities.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations and structured root‑cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with process safety principles and formal safety management systems.
  • Experience supporting new production equipment, facility expansion or manufacturing start‑up activities would be beneficial.
  • Strong ability to work both strategically and hands‑on within a site environment.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively with production teams, engineers, contractors and senior management.
  • Relevant degree or professional qualification in occupational safety, environmental management, engineering, chemistry or a related discipline would be advantageous.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM or equivalent would be welcomed but are not essential.
Candidate background

We are particularly interested in speaking with EHS professionals from environments where chemical control, process safety and operational discipline are critical .

Relevant backgrounds may include:
  • Semiconductor and microelectronics manufacturing
  • Chemical and specialty chemical production
  • Pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturing
  • Life sciences and medical‑device manufacturing
  • Specialty materials and advanced materials
  • Battery and energy‑storage manufacturing
  • Electronics and high‑tech manufacturing
  • Other complex or highly regulated process‑manufacturing environments

Candidates do not necessarily need direct experience in the client's exact product area; transferable experience managing chemical, gas and process‑related risk within a sophisticated manufacturing environment is particularly valuable.

Why consider this opportunity?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of EHS within a growing advanced manufacturing operation and play a significant role in shaping the site's safety culture, systems and operating standards.

The position combines hands‑on site leadership with strategic responsibility , offering exposure to manufacturing expansion, engineering projects, sophisticated process infrastructure and senior operational stakeholders.

For an EHS professional coming from semiconductor, chemicals, pharmaceuticals or another high‑control manufacturing environment, it offers the opportunity to bring proven safety practices into a growing operation where EHS will remain central to long‑term performance.
