Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior Product Designer at Garmin's location in the Greater Denver area. In this role, you will be responsible for being a proven designer with expertise in all aspects of user centered design to produce and give direction to others for the best design solutions. You’ll partner with product management and engineering leadership from the kickoff of a project to the delivery of value to our customers. Discovering new opportunities and testing assumptions with designed prototypes narrowing down to laser-focused incremental value delivery. You’ll be working alongside other designers with a shared passion for endurance athletics and the coach and athlete relationship, providing guidance and initiating effective collaboration for raising the competencies of the team.

Essential Functions
  • Perform as a design leader who guides design direction for multiple projects and takes responsibility for project planning to ensure timely project completion
  • Driving collaboration with Product Managers to define user problems and produce designs during all stages of the product life cycle — from the discovery of opportunities to the delivery of customer value
  • Make substantial contributions to determining feasibility of project goals/objectives
  • Partner with team leads/management to determine feature vision, visualize and communicate it
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for a key feature or technology and communicate best practices for user experience for that feature
  • Research and provide solutions for problems that span multiple groups or disciplines
  • Provide feedback on designs in areas of expertise to team members
  • Exhibiting expert knowledge with design industry standard tools needed to produce core domain deliverables such as: Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, MAZE, SurveyMonkey
  • Guiding several diverse design approaches and validating the right solution with prototypes, validation testing and quantitative/qualitative customer research
  • Transforming divergent low-fidelity wireframe concepts, rapidly progressing into high-fidelity UI prototypes including design interactions, platform conventions, best practices and design rationale while narrowing down scope to validated solution
  • Mentoring within the broader design team to share feedback, maintain our design system, and elevate overall product quality and design efficacy
  • Provide feedback on designs in areas of expertise to team members
  • Lead conversations with partners and potential clients with respect to user experience design
  • Serve as a mentor to less experienced Product Designers (Product Designer 1 & 2)
  • Contribute to advanced design research for new products or markets by identifying research opportunities, creating effective protocols, and formulating solid solutions from research results
  • Provide input to product design plans and concept documents
  • Demonstrate understanding of business needs as they related to design
  • Independently determine general approach and specific solutions to technical problems
  • Stay up to date with the latest design trends, tools, and technologies and advocate for user-centric design principles and best practices
  • Communicate status of work clearly and provide visibility to supervisor
  • Exemplifies Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and proactively works to improve Garmin’s image and culture
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Interactive Design, Human Factors, Visual Design or a degree with an equivalent curriculum that teaches user centered design principles AND a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience OR a minimum of 9 years equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the ability to effectively apply learned knowledge
  • Proficient in UX software tools such as Figma and Sketch, as well as interactive prototyping tools
  • Proven track record with leading design direction for multiple projects, and ensuring effective project planning leads to timely completion of project goals/objectives
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Excellent knowledge and passion for Garmin Products
